ABOUT ME
My name is Vanetta and my dedication to fitness started in 2003 when I was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder called Myasthenia Gravis which causes muscle weakness throughout my body. In the early stages of my diagnosis, there were days that I was so weak that I could not even feed myself. But there were also days that my weakness still allowed me to take a short stroll from my hospital bed to the hospital chair nearby. But I’m Strong came about when my aunt would text me daily to see how I was doing. She knew that texting and even speaking was often a struggle for me due to severe muscle weakness. She would have me text “I’m weak” on my especially gruesome days, and on my better days I would text “I'm Weak, But I’m Strong.” Even though I was never really strong in the sense of the word, we both had an understanding that "But I’m Strong" meant that I had a small victory that day. To this day, saying "I may be weak, But I’m Strong" has given me the power to overcome my weakness when I felt that there was no hope. On days that I was convinced that I would never walk again, I would constantly whisper in my heart, "I may be weak, But I’m Strong."
After years of experiencing severe relapses that caused widespread muscle weakness, along with being fed and injected with numerous medications, I decided to take control of my life. I started to change my eating habits and committed to an exercise regimen which focused on strength training and weightlifting. While I am far from my goal of complete independence from my medications, the years of constant hospital admissions and relapses are far behind me. My goal is to educate people on how to heal their bodies from the inside out with a healthy lifestyle focused on exercise and nutrition. I also want to empower people with diseases similar to my own to find strength during times when they may feel that they are at their weakest.
I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer/AFFA Nutrition Specialist and I specialize in strength training, weight loss, rehabilitation training, toning and building muscle.
